To those standing in the gap for God
on behalf of your college athletic department,
In our first two installments of
this letter, we challenged you to consider trusting God to create a
“transformational community” among the athletes and coaches on your campus, and
stated that prayer is the foundational hinge upon which ministry swings.
Both becoming a transformational
community and pursuing God in prayer are ongoing processes that require patience
and a steadfast pursuit of something you can’t immediately see, but we believe
God will bless your efforts as you trust Him for something only He can
produce.
As you are praying and asking God to
change both you and those around you, you will need to initiate with the coaches
and teams that God puts in your life. This may be second nature to you or
may be the scariest thing you’ve ever done (or maybe a little of both!), but
ministry demands taking the initiative in relationships by faith. We’ve
developed a ministry tool that lays out the steps of sport ministry from A to Z
that might help you take the first step. Click here
for a sample on How to Get the Ministry
Started.
A central tension in the Christian
life lies at the intersection of work and faith. Philippians 2:12,13
exhorts us to “work out your salvation” while always remembering that “God is at
work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” So rest in
Him as you consider that He always moves first, but then realize that He expects
you to move too!!
Prayer injected action—the raw
material of effective
ministry!!!
