Subject: This Week's Linc, 11/7

To those courageously standing in the gap between a merciful and Holy God and athletes on their campus who’ve yet to know Him,

We want to focus again this week on Discipleship or our ‘Build’ component of the ‘Prayer, Win, Build, Send’ strategic path

As Jesus’ Great Commission, entrusted to the eleven, and in turn, to us, states:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28-19-20

In this simple command, Jesus reveals the genius behind His plan for Global conquest.  Notice that His final commission does not state to go and “Make Converts” of all the nations; we’re to make ‘Disciples.  Making converts is arguably a whole lot easier and less messy.  Making disciples, helping others move from being a newborn in Christ to a solid, mature, self-feeding and other-influencing Christian, requires lots of prayer, patience, teaching, modeling, usually many meals, thus, a high amount of relational capacity from that of a more mature Christ follower.

But in the process, a Spiritual Leader is multiplied.  And where there is multiplication, the potential for exponential impact is realized.  If all you did this year is lead ten athletes to Christ, that is awesome.  However, in addition to that, if you were to disciple, multiply into 2-3 others, who would in turn be equipped to share the gospel and disciple others, well, you see where this is going……For you math and analytical types, check out the graph in the article here from the SportLinc website.

Finally, many of you are not currently receiving weekly coaching from a staff member with Athletes in Action.  If you would like to hear more about that or if you think its time for you to take advantage of this resource and relationship, please let us know!

Keep getting into the mess of others lives helping them go from immaturity to impact!
