To those standing in the gap between
lost athletes and coaches on your campus and the God of the
Universe,
How did you first hear the
message of hope through Christ that resulted in your transformation and
redemption? At some point, most likely, someone took some initiative to invite you to
something or to share with you this dynamic message that ultimately answers the
core questions of the human heart. Paul urged his Roman brothers and
sisters in the following way:
“How, then, can they call on the one they
have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they
have not heard? And how
can they hear without someone preaching to them?....Consequently, faith comes
from hearing the message, and the message is heard through
the word of
Christ.”
Romans 10:14,
17
The question for you as you help
lead the charge toward athletes on campus is how to communicate the gospel in an
effective and relevant way? You, as the leader, need to seek God and
discover what ways are most effective for your campus. However, some
timeless principles that ALWAYS APPLY are:
- Taking
initiative
- Asking GOOD
questions
- Listening (truly
listening and not just a pause from talking)
Our encouragement is for you to grow
in these principles yourself but also to help your core leaders ‘catch it’ from
you (Remember to never share your faith without another Christian, especially
one you are discipling and training, if you can help it so that they can learn
how to do it themselves). Click here
for some great tools to expand your arsenal of some great questions
that will allow you to ‘wonder’ into someone else’s soul. The result can
oftentimes be learning more about what’s really underneath the mask people are
hiding behind. Another result, often after someone feels ‘listened to’ for
sometime, will involve them asking you what makes you tick.
